The kidneys and water balance is notoriously difficult topic! In this video, I break everything down into simple, bitesize chunks. Learn about why it is important to maintain water and nitrogen balance, how waste products (including urea) are made and excreted by the body. Then learn how the kidneys produce urine and how ADH is involved in the control of water concentration in the blood. Finally we look at how kidney dialysis works before comparing it to kidney transplants. This is a popular exam question topic that comes up frequently so we finish with some practise questions to really help drive home the concepts we’ve learnt.
